Washington State's Washington Wildlife and Recreation Program (WWRP) can fund conservation and wetland banks to achieve its goal "to acquire as soon as possible the most significant lands for wildlife conservation …purposes before they are converted to other uses." A 2006 request for proposals has resulted in two habitat banks. The Washington Department of Ecology is revising its draft rule on wetland mitigation banks. The rule will likely also have an effect on species mitigaiton banking in the state.
