Queensland is developing a ‘specific issue' biodiversity offsets policy under the Environmental Offsets framework. A consultation draft was made available in December of 2008, with a public comment period extending until March 2009. However, the final policy was postponed due to a state government election. After the March election, several government departments were amalgamated and the newly combined agency – the Department of Environment and Resource Management – will be releasing a new proposal for a State biodiversity offsets policy.
